[He reaches down and rests his fingers over Ed's, gentle and careful. He wishes that he could feel through the metal and fabric of his body, he would give anything in the world just to have the sensation of touching his brother's hand right now.]

I know we will, I've never doubted it. You're the most determined person I know, you're the reason we'll make it.

[ so maybe Al can't feel it, but that doesn't change the fact that it's his brother in there, after all. that his brother's soul is fused to the metal. he'll treat him like his brother all the same. he squeezes the shoulder, even if it only means gripping metal. ]

Don't say that, Al. We'll make it together. It won't be any other way. [ he's doing this for Al, mostly, after all, and Al keeps him grounded, makes him human. he needs that. ]

Besides, someone's gotta make sure I don't fall apart... [ he hadn't realized how tired he was, but every day that passes his body feels heavier and more tired, worn. his eyes are slipping shut long before he means for them to, the grip on the metal shoulder going slack. ]
